LED display breaks into the 100 billion short drama track

In 2025, the overall scale of China's short drama market has exceeded 100 billion yuan, and it is expected to approach 120 billion yuan in 2026. With the surge in investment costs and the tightening of supervision, the short drama industry is accelerating to bid farewell to "traffic gambling" and instead seek industrial solutions with "high efficiency, high quality, and low uncertainty."

This time, the force driving change is no longer just content companies, but comes from the LED display industry chain.

Recently, Alto Electronics' first S-level work "Hush, She's the Dreamer", which entered the short drama circuit, has been filmed in the MetaBox 4KK virtual studio of Creative Digital.

The practical application of the short drama scene not only verifies the feasibility of the new model of "XR+AI+short drama", but also releases a clear signal: leading manufacturers are integrating underlying capabilities to extend from a single equipment supplier to key links in the content production value chain, cutting into the upstream entrance to the hundreds of billions-level content economy.

Based on this, this article also simultaneously puts forward three core industry propositions, which urgently need market verification:

1. Why now?

2. Can the "XR+AI" technology combination truly achieve stable, low-cost, and large-scale output at the level of short dramas?

3. Can the "XR + AI + short drama" model become a replicable path for the display industry to enter the 100 billion content economy?

Why now? "XR+AI" meets the two major needs of short dramas

With the rapid development of the short drama market, the entire ecological structure is undergoing fundamental changes.

From a market perspective, short dramas have made the transition from early "quick-production and fast-moving" to "movie-level quality". Especially S-level projects have dual rigid requirements for picture quality and production efficiency, but the budget is often only one-tenth of traditional film and television. Under this contradiction, the traditional disadvantages of long construction period, frequent scene transitions, and low fault tolerance are magnified, making it difficult to support high-frequency and large-scale content output.

From an industry perspective, the technical threshold for XR virtual shooting is rapidly falling, and short drama-level solutions are gradually taking shape. In the past, LED virtual shooting has been used for Hollywood blockbusters and high-end advertisements for a long time. The investment for a single system often exceeded 10 million yuan, and the deployment cycle was measured in months. Even though it has been introduced by large platforms such as iQiyi and Tencent Video in recent years, it was mostly used for large-scale TV series and has not really been applied to small and medium-sized projects.

The turning point occurred after the advent of lightweight XR solutions represented by the Alto Electronics MetaBox series. According to reports, this type of solution reduces system costs to 30%-40% of traditional levels, and greatly simplifies calibration and operation processes. It paves the way for LED virtual shooting to move from "exclusive for movies" to "available for short plays", and also allows more small and medium-sized production teams to have affordable and implementable industrial tools.

From an S-level short drama, see how the new production model works

Now, the technology combination of "XR + AI" has also been intensively verified in the "Hush, She is the Dreamer" project.

Experts say that Display has learned that "Hush, She is the Dreamer" is a live-action short drama invested by Alto Sports Culture, jointly produced by Alto Electronics and Creative Digital, with Sony (China) as the technical partner, and Yunhe Film and Television as the producer. The project has been positioned as an S-level short drama from the beginning of the project. The overall filming has been completed and will be launched on platforms such as Hongguo Short Drama and Douyin.

The entire project was shot in the MetaBox 4KK virtual studio. The studio integrates LED display, lighting, camera tracking, audio-visual and virtual production systems, supports immersive 3D scene construction and AI-assisted production, and can quickly respond to the needs of short dramas for multi-scene switching and high-frequency output.

During the filming process, the production team relied on XR real-time rendering and virtual scene interaction technology to achieve true "what you see is what you get." The director can instantly adjust the lighting, composition, and scene details on the scene without waiting for post-production synthesis. With the Coruscant star core rendering server and Vormir AI system, the crew introduced AI intelligent camera movement and dynamic scene interaction, which not only improved the flexibility of shot scheduling, but also significantly reduced the complexity of post-production connection.

According to the project team, compared with the traditional production model, this solution improves the overall shooting efficiency by about 30%, shortens the shooting cycle while ensuring the picture quality, and completes the production ahead of schedule.

This case shows that the application of "XR+AI" in the entire short drama production chain has moved from the experimental stage to the replicable and scalable implementation stage.

For LED display companies, this is not only an extension of hardware capabilities, but also provides a realistic path for them to enter the content production value chain and participate in content commercial sharing. It also provides a reference sample for the industrial transformation of the entire short drama industry.

"XR+AI+Short Drama", a potential new growth curve

For a long time, the core revenue source of the LED display industry has been concentrated in hardware sales. However, as competition intensifies, profit margins continue to narrow, and simply selling screens can no longer support long-term growth. In contrast, the content industry where short dramas are located has a market size of over 100 billion and maintains rapid growth, providing a potential new growth curve for LED display companies.

The essence of the "hardware integration + content scenario" model is to deeply bind LED's hardware capabilities with content production, upgrading from single device sales to "hardware + technical services + content participation".

But to become a replicable industrial path, the key lies in the sustainability of the business model, the ability to collaborate with the industry chain, and the ability to mine content value.

Alto Electronics' exploration has begun to take shape: through its subsidiary Chuangxiang Digital, it has deeply embedded its self-developed XR system and LED display equipment into the short drama production scene. It not only provides hardware and technical services, but also directly participates in joint production, realizing the transformation from a "solution provider" to a "content industrialization service provider".

The advantage of this model is that it can transform the core advantages of LED hardware into the competitiveness of content production. At the same time, by participating in content production, it can share the value-added benefits of the content industry and break the "one-time transaction" limitation of traditional hardware sales.

However, large-scale replication still requires challenges such as collaboration across the industry chain, business sustainability, and content value mining.

However, from the perspective of industry opportunities, this path has a replicable basis.

On the one hand, the industrialization of short dramas has continued to increase demand for XR virtual shooting and LED displays; on the other hand, leading companies can integrate hardware supply, technical services, content incubation and distribution monetization through platform operations to form a full industry chain layout and reduce single-point risks.

For example, by building a shared XR studio platform to provide equipment rental and technical support for small and medium-sized teams, and at the same time selecting high-quality projects to jointly produce, the dual benefits of "hardware monetization + content value-added" can be achieved. This model can also be extended to long-form dramas, variety shows, live broadcasts and other fields, bringing a new form and higher competitiveness to content production.

In summary, "hardware integration + content scenario" provides a feasible path for the LED display industry to enter the hundreds of billions content market. However, it must break through the bottleneck of collaboration and sustainability through platformization and large-scale operations before it can truly run through and replicate.

Experts say Research summary

The launch of "Hush, She's the Dreamer" marks to a certain extent that the industrial transformation of the short drama industry has gone beyond simple content production upgrades, and has become a potential path for the LED display industry to break through the growth bottleneck and enter the hundreds of billions of content market.

At present, "XR+AI" has been implemented in leading projects, lightweight virtual production is rapidly sinking, and the new model of "XR+AI+short drama" has taken shape and has the potential to be copied.

In the future, as technology continues to evolve, industrial chain collaboration deepens, and business models become increasingly mature, the LED display industry is expected to enter the 100 billion content market and achieve a jump in value; the short drama industry will also rely on this technological base to complete industrial transformation and enter a new stage of high-quality development.

We hope that this two-way rush of technology and content will give birth to a new industrial ecosystem in which "technology serves as the base, content serves as the engine, and business serves as the closed loop."
