With a total area of 371 square meters, this COB large screen broke the Guinness record

On April 2, at the "Beauty with Wuhan - 2026 Wuhan Metro Media Ecology Conference", Guinness World Records Certification Officer Wu Xiaohong officially announced that a large circular digital screen at Wuhan Metro Huangpu Road Station, with a total area of 371.06 square meters, successfully broke the previous world record of 159.89 square meters and won the Guinness World Record title of "the largest subway station LED display".

This marks a major breakthrough in the digital display of public spaces in my country's subways, and also adds a new visual business card to urban hubs.

It is reported that this new global record-breaking circular digital screen is located in the transfer hall of Wuhan Metro Huangpu Road Station. It was jointly built by Zhongnan Metro Media and Wuhan Xunbo Sports Advertising Development Co., Ltd. The large screen is 154.481 meters long and surrounds the core of the station hall. The area is made up of 1,205 boxes and 7,230 modules that are precisely spliced together. It has 4 arc-shaped corners. The construction team adjusted the overall steel structure to achieve a tight and seamless splicing. Even when viewed up close, there is no graininess and the picture is delicate and smooth.

At the technical level, this large screen uses COB packaging technology. Compared with traditional displays, the colors are more vivid, the contrast is higher, and the color reproduction is more accurate. It is also equipped with high refresh rate technology, which effectively eliminates common moiré and stroboscopic phenomena, ensuring smooth and clear dynamic images, and adapts to the needs of scenes with dense crowds and close viewing distances in subway stations. The project started construction on February 25, 2026, and was officially opened on March 20, 2026. It only took about one month to complete all construction, demonstrating its efficient engineering capabilities.

According to reports, during the construction process, the screen must be divided into 12 screens and then spliced into a complete whole, which places extremely high requirements on equipment performance and quality. Currently, this large screen plays normally from 7:00 to 22:00 every day, mainly covering the peak traffic hours, and has the functions of information dissemination, commercial display and cultural promotion.

According to public information, the Guinness record for the world's largest underground LED display was previously held by the "Umeda Metro Vision" large screen at Umeda Station on the Osaka Metro Midosuji Line in Japan. The large screen was certified on November 30, 2019, with an area of 159.89 square meters. It was installed on the south wall of the Umeda Station Line 2 platform. The design concept is "From Osaka to the World" and is mainly used for advertising display. With its huge area, it has become the iconic landscape of Osaka Subway. After its record was held for nearly 7 years, it was successfully broken by the large screen of Wuhan Huangpu Road Subway Station.

The relevant person in charge of Wuhan Metro Group said that this circular digital giant screen is not only a Guinness World Record, but also a leap in the value of urban public space. As the interchange station of Wuhan Metro Line 1 and Line 8, Huangpu Road Station is surrounded by an active business environment and attracts tens of millions of passengers every year. In the future, this large screen will become a new window for Wuhan to express its voice, showing the city's cultural heritage and the style of the times, turning subway commuting from "rush" to "experience", and turning public spaces into mobile urban exhibition halls.

This record breaking not only demonstrates the leading level of my country's LED display technology, but also promotes the digital and intelligent development of subway public spaces, providing a reference example for the upgrading of subway media in cities around the world.

The "2025 Global LED Display Research White Paper" shows that in the context of digital upgrading of rail transit, subway scenes place multiple demands on LED display systems for information visualization, space empowerment and immersive experience. These multi-dimensional demands are driving the development of LED display technology towards higher integration, stronger environmental adaptability, and better interactive experience, bringing broad opportunities to the LED industry chain in terms of technological innovation, solution design, and cross-field integration.
