The national key R&D project led by Mulinsen was approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology

It is reported that the national key research and development plan "New Display and Strategic Electronic Materials" led by Zhongshan Mulinsen Electronics Co., Ltd. reported that the key project "LED technology and its demonstration application for efficient planting needs of modern agriculture" (No.: 2022YFB3604600) was approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology.

LED plant lighting is a new technology that emerged with the development of modern agricultural production models and semiconductor lighting technology. It is listed as an important direction of agricultural high-tech emerging industries at home and abroad. For a long time, the research and development and application of LED plant lighting technology have focused on the production of supplementary light for horticultural plants. The seed industry is the chip of agriculture and the cornerstone of national food security, and the cultivation of high-value crops is an important industrial foundation for rural revitalization. Based on the advantages of LED lighting, in recent years, the industry generally believes that LED has great potential in the field of crop breeding and generation breeding and efficient planting of high-value crops. However, it still faces key bottlenecks such as unclear LED photobiological efficacy rules, low light efficiency of LEDs for precise control of crop growth, lack of dedicated multi-spectral high-reliability LED lighting systems, and lack of technical specifications, which urgently need to be broken through.
This project is based on "research on the effectiveness of photobiology → development of special LED system equipment → application demonstration", focusing on the study of the biological effectiveness of LED light formulas for rapid propagation of staple crops and efficient planting of high-value crops, research and development of efficient LED technology required for precise control of crop growth, and creation of a multispectral LED lighting system with intelligently adjustable light parameters and high reliability. It will form an LED technology system for efficient cultivation of modern agriculture, and promote my country's LED plant lighting technology to become an international leader.

It is understood that the project team includes Zhongshan Mulinsen Electronics Co., Ltd., the Institute of Agricultural Environment and Sustainable Development of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, the Fruit Tree Research Institute of the Guangdong Academy of Agricultural Sciences, the Urban Agriculture Institute of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, the Institute of Semiconductors of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Tianjin Sanan Optoelectronics Co., Ltd., Foshan Guoxing Optoelectronics Co., Ltd., Guangdong Agricultural Sciences There are 10 units in total including the Rice Research Institute of the Academy of Industrial Sciences, the Zhongguancun Semiconductor Lighting Joint Innovation Key Laboratory, and the Institute of Facility Agriculture of the Guangdong Academy of Agricultural Sciences. They have gathered multi-disciplinary strengths such as semiconductor optoelectronic materials, plant photobiology, and modern agricultural planting. They have the ability to jointly tackle key problems in "industry-academy-research-application" and have obvious advantages in resources, technology, and research and development.

The project leader, Dr. Li Tao, currently works as a researcher and doctoral supervisor at the Institute of Agricultural Environment and Sustainable Development, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, and concurrently serves as the LED plant lighting technical consultant of Mulinsen Co., Ltd. He has been engaged in research on light environment control for efficient plant production for 12 years, and has presided over 13 national key research and development projects, National Natural Science Foundation of China and other LED plant lighting related projects; served as a national key researcher during the “13th Five-Year Plan” He is the general coordinator and execution expert of the development plan project "R&D and Application Demonstration of LED Key Technologies for Facility Agriculture Production" and has rich experience in project organization and management.

The project is expected to develop high-efficiency near-infrared, red light, and UVB LED chips and devices required for precise control of crop growth; create dedicated multi-spectrum high-efficiency and high-reliability LED lamps and light environment intelligent control systems; build a dedicated LED light formula; build a demonstration base for the intergenerational breeding of staple crops and LED supplementary light planting of high-value crops; shorten the breeding cycle of typical staple crops by more than 40%, increase the yield per mu by more than 10%, and increase the economic benefits of representative high-value crops by more than 20%.
