On May 7, Xiamen Stan Semiconductor Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Stein") and Xiamen Qianzhao Optoelectronics Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Qianzhao Optoelectronics") officially signed a strategic cooperation agreement. The two parties rely on the advantages of the semiconductor optoelectronics industry cluster in Xiamen Torch High-tech Zone to realize the strengthening and complementation of the Micro-LED epitaxy, light-emitting chips and CMOS driver chip industry chains.
Stan said that by strengthening the strategic coordination of upstream high-quality epitaxial processes, self-developed CMOS driver chips and directional development project experience for international TOP 5 automotive Tier 1 major customers, it is expected to break the technology monopoly of overseas leading manufacturers in the automotive market and build a domestic automotive display ecological closed loop from core components to system integration.
According to experts, Display understands that Stain is deeply involved in the research and development and industrialization of Micro LED technology, and is currently focusing on the development of automotive Micro LED tracks. In April, Stain Technology stated that it planned to release a Micro LED automotive module product in May at an exclusive display event for Tier 1 customers of leading automobiles. This product is based on a self-developed CMOS driver chip with a brightness exceeding 1000lm. It is mainly targeted at application scenarios such as vehicle-mounted short-distance projection.
In the automotive Micro-LED track, Stanton has deployed the Die to Die/Wafer to Wafer process, combined with AM drive methods and fully customized drive technology, to effectively reduce the cost of large-sized automotive chips and modules and meet the core requirements of high yield, high reliability, and long life. Currently, Stan's automotive Micro-LED products have received targeted development contracts and mass production orders from leading international Tier 1 suppliers.
As a semiconductor optoelectronics company, Qianzhao Optoelectronics has significant advantages in the field of Micro LED epitaxial wafers and light-emitting chips. And with many years of industry experience and process accumulation in the field of high quantum efficiency sapphire substrate epitaxial technology, it has the upstream core supply strength of adaptive high beam (ADB), and has built an integrated self-developed mass production system from epitaxial growth to LED light-emitting chips, completing the technical reserve of automotive lighting and display chip-level solutions.
With the development of Micro LED technology, vehicle-mounted display is also one of the potential large-scale application scenarios of Micro-LED. Automotive grade applications have strict requirements on high temperature resistance, earthquake resistance, reliability, yield and cost of devices. At this stage, the Die to Die/Die to Wafer process combined with the sapphire epitaxy route can promote the commercialization of automotive Micro LED. Both parties have established a long-term strategic layout in this field, and their technical routes are in line with vehicle regulations. This cooperation can leverage the differentiated advantages of the industrial chain, break through technology and production capacity barriers, and accelerate the mass production of automotive Micro-LEDs.
Experts say Research believes that Qianzhao Optoelectronics can provide Micro LED epitaxy and LED chips, and Stanton can provide automotive CMOS driver chips + AM active matrix modules to achieve independent controllability of the entire process, further promoting the implementation of automotive Micro LED in ADB headlights, automotive displays and other fields, and is expected to break the technology monopoly of overseas manufacturers in the automotive market.
