AR glasses manufacturer Vuzix announces second quarter results and promotes optical waveguide production line upgrades

On August 13, the American smart glasses manufacturer Vuzix announced its second quarter results for fiscal year 2026. During the reporting period, the company achieved revenue of US$1.113 million, a year-on-year decrease of 14%; a net loss of US$7.629 million, compared with US$7.666 million in the same period last year.

Specifically, product sales in the second quarter were US$884,000, a year-on-year decrease of 15%; engineering services and OEM product sales were US$229,000, a year-on-year decrease of 8%. Gross profit was -US$645,000, a 15% decrease from US$761,000 in the same period last year.

Research and development expenses were US$3.098 million, a year-on-year increase of 20%, mainly due to the increase in external development costs of new products and the increase in salary and benefit expenses caused by the increase in the number of employees. Sales and marketing expenses were US$1.21 million, a year-on-year decrease of 11%; general and administrative expenses were US$2.682 million, a year-on-year decrease of 3%.

During the reporting period, Vuzix continued to promote AI smart glasses, optical waveguides and OEM/ODM businesses, and made progress on a number of projects. The company has delivered the first batch of new generation Ultralite Pro smart glasses to Amazon for commercial testing; at the same time, it is expanding the deployment of M400 smart glasses in Amazon distribution centers and pushing the Collins Aerospace project into the initial production stage.

In addition to smart glasses products, optical waveguides are also one of the core technology directions that Vuzix focuses on. Vuzix has delivered its first optical waveguide-based systems to a global automaker and received initial and follow-on orders from Augmex for enterprise deployment projects.

Vuzix said that the company will continue to invest in optical waveguide factories and manufacturing equipment to improve production efficiency, shorten the development cycle, and achieve one production line to support research and development and another production line to support mass production.

Regarding industry development, Vuzix believes that with the development of AI and platform ecology, the smart glasses industry is entering a stage of rapid change. The company will continue to invest in optical waveguide technology innovation, expand strategic partnerships, and expand into markets such as enterprise, national defense, and ODM/OEM.
